The performance I'm far more familiar with its follow -up The Odyssey, both because I read it at an older age, and because a fellow student and I took key scenes and rewrote them in modern tongue for a performance back in college (see I can be a dramaturge too). The Fagles seems to elicit controversial reactions.some, even claiming it's not a genuine translation, more of a "summary and redaction"? High school was a long time ago and I really want to go back and read the Illiad and The Odyssey with my current brain. What translation is the most highly recommended? There is also an immensely popular translation from the last 10 years ( or so) by Robert Fagles, also published by Penguin. Over at The Worst Ever, the choice resource of De Grypis for I wasn' t impugning the translationjust the idea, proposed by all reviewers/journalists (who aren't a part of the classics world), that he made this relevant to the modern reader. This individual or bardic guild developed an amazing epic narrative poem in dactylic hexameter to recount in oral tradition, depicting the Trojan War (The Iliad) and Odysseus' convoluted return home from the war (The Odyssey). So with book #2 of my great books list down, I'm looking forward to following the exploits of Odysseus, one of my favorite characters from The Iliad, in The Odyssey, which is also available in a translation by Fagles, yes!
